Signs of an incident
How do you know something is wrong?
Incidents rarely announce themselves clearly. These are common signs worth acting on right away. For a fuller checklist, see how to know if your business has been hacked.

Files you can't open
Files are renamed, encrypted, or replaced with a ransom note.
02
Strange email activity
Coworkers or clients receive messages you didn't send, or new inbox rules appear.

Unexpected sign-ins
Alerts about sign-ins you don't recognize, or passwords that suddenly stop working.
04
Payment changes
A vendor or client was asked to change payment details, or a payment went somewhere it shouldn't.

Data recovery
Request a data recovery quote
Drive damaged, wiped or unreadable after an incident? We’ll try what’s safe in-house and, if it needs a clean-room lab, get you a free lab evaluation and quote first. Recovery isn’t guaranteed, but it’s no data, no charge.
Until we talk, stop using the drive and don’t reset or erase it. If it’s encrypted, find the BitLocker or FileVault recovery key. Without it, no one can recover the data.

Questions
Incident response services: Los Angeles FAQs
Have a question that isn't here? Call 310.331.8119 or schedule a free consultation.
Can you help if we're not a SupportMax client?
Yes. If you are dealing with an active incident, call 310.331.8119 during business hours, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Pacific.
Do you offer 24/7 incident response?
No. Incident response is available during business hours, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Pacific. Outside those hours, disconnect affected computers from the network, preserve evidence, and contact your cyber insurer.
Should we pay the ransom?
Don't decide alone or in a hurry. Talk to your cyber insurer and attorneys first. The FBI does not encourage paying a ransom, because payment doesn't guarantee you will get your data back. See what happens after a ransomware attack for the other decisions you'll face.
Can you recover our data?
Often, if tested backups exist. We restore systems and data from backups where possible, but we can't promise every file can be recovered.
Do you work with our cyber insurance company?
Yes. We coordinate with your cyber insurer, attorneys, or forensic firm. Call your insurer early, because many policies have specific steps you must follow.
How much does incident response cost?
It depends on how many systems are affected, what needs to be restored, and how much coordination is involved. We explain the scope and costs as soon as we understand the situation.
