Most phishing emails don’t look dangerous. That’s the point. SupportMax filters phishing, spam, and malicious attachments before they reach your team. We protect Microsoft 365 accounts with multi-factor authentication, so one leaked password isn’t the whole story, and we help your staff learn to spot suspicious messages. If someone does click, you get plain-English help to contain it and recover. Request a security review of your email protection.
Where email attacks get in
Why email is still the easiest way into a small business
Most attacks don't need advanced tools. They need one convincing email and one busy employee.
01
Convincing phishing emails
Fake invoices, shared-file links, and login pages that look just like Microsoft 365.
02
Stolen passwords
A password reused on another site, or typed into a fake login page, can give an attacker access to your email.
03
Payment and invoice fraud
An attacker inside a real mailbox can send convincing requests to change payment details.
04
No plan after a click
Without a plan, one clicked link turns into hours of confusion while the problem spreads.
What actually protects you
What does good email security look like for a small business?
No single tool stops every phishing email. Good protection uses three layers, so one mistake doesn't become a breach. For phishing pages reached through a link, see managed browser security.
Request a Security Review1. Filter before it arrives
Email filtering catches phishing, spam, and malicious attachments before they reach anyone's inbox.
2. Protect the account
Multi-factor authentication and the right Microsoft 365 security settings make a stolen password far less useful.
3. Prepare your people
Security awareness training or phishing simulations help your team recognize what gets through, and report it.

Email authentication
Stop criminals sending email as your business: SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
Filtering protects your inbox. Email authentication protects your name. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are settings on your domain that tell other mail systems which servers may send email as your business and what to do with messages that fail the check. Without them, anyone can send email that looks like it came from your company to your clients and vendors. SupportMax sets up all three, and we recommend DMARC for every client.
SPF
Lists the services allowed to send email for your domain, such as Microsoft 365 and your billing or marketing tools.
DKIM
Adds a digital signature to your outgoing email, so receiving systems can confirm it really came from you and was not changed.
DMARC
Tells receiving systems what to do with email that fails those checks, from monitoring to quarantine to rejection, and sends you reports showing who is sending email as you.
Why we push DMARC: it is the step that lets you act against spoofed email instead of just hoping. We start in monitoring mode, use the reports to find every legitimate sender, then tighten the policy step by step so real email keeps flowing. Gmail's sender guidelines require every sender to use SPF or DKIM, and senders of more than 5,000 messages a day must also have DMARC. Microsoft explains how DMARC works, and cyber insurance questionnaires commonly ask about it; see cyber insurance readiness.
If someone clicks
What should you do if an employee clicks a phishing email?
Don't wait to see whether it was harmless. Tell your IT provider right away, change the password for that account, and pause any payment requests from the email until they're confirmed by phone. SupportMax helps you check the account, contain the problem, and recover if needed. See our step-by-step guide: what to do if an employee clicked a phishing email.

Microsoft 365 licenses and any separately licensed security tools are discussed separately, and your written proposal states whether setup, monitoring, and incident help are included. No email filter catches everything, and we don't promise that it will. You can compare the email security and Microsoft 365 add-ons we offer before we talk.

Protections needed
Filtering, account protection, and dark web monitoring.

Answer a few questions about your business and the security you have in place. It takes about five minutes. We pass your answers to our insurance partners, who prepare the quote. SupportMax is not an insurance company or licensed insurance agent and may receive compensation if you buy a policy.

Questions
Email security services: common questions
Have a question that isn't here? Call 310.331.8119 or schedule a free consultation.
Does Microsoft 365 already include email security?
Microsoft 365 includes some built-in protection, and the right settings make a real difference. Many businesses still add dedicated filtering, multi-factor authentication, and staff training, because no single layer catches everything. We review what you have before recommending anything.
Can email filtering stop every phishing email?
No. Filtering catches a lot, but some convincing emails still get through. That's why we combine filtering with multi-factor authentication, training, and a clear plan for what to do if someone clicks.
What should we do if someone clicks a phishing link?
Tell us right away, change that account's password, and pause any payment requests from the email until they're confirmed by phone. We check the account, contain the problem, and help you recover.
Do you train our staff?
Yes. We provide security awareness training or phishing simulations so your team learns to recognize and report suspicious emails.
What is business email compromise?
It's when an attacker gets into a real mailbox, or pretends to be someone you trust, to request payments or sensitive information. Multi-factor authentication, filtering, and a habit of confirming payment changes by phone all reduce the risk.
How much does email security cost?
It depends on how many mailboxes you have, which protections you need, and whether you want training included. We give you a clear quote after reviewing your setup.
