Why Isn't My Contact Form Working?
When a contact form is not working, the form usually submits but the email never arrives. The most common causes are a plugin that broke after an update, form emails being sent to spam or rejected because your domain's email settings don't allow the website to send on its behalf, and messages going to an old or unwatched inbox. Test the form yourself first, then check each of these in turn.

Common causes
Why contact forms stop working
Most broken forms fail quietly, so nobody notices for weeks.
01
Plugin problems
An update to WordPress, a theme, or a plugin breaks the form or how it sends email.
02
Emails in spam
Form emails are filtered or rejected because they don't look like they come from your domain.
03
Wrong inbox
Messages go to an old address or a person who has left.
04
Form errors
A required field, spam filter, or error stops visitors from submitting at all.

3. Check the reply path
Reply to the test and confirm it reaches the visitor's address. Repeat after every website update.

Tested regularly
Email providers check whether messages really come from your domain. Google's email sender guidelines and Microsoft's explanation of how email authentication works describe the settings that keep legitimate email out of spam. SupportMax sets up these settings, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, for your domain; see email security and DMARC.
Why it keeps happening
Why forms break after website updates
Contact forms depend on several moving parts: the form plugin, the website software, and your business email. When any one of them changes, the form can stop delivering without showing an error. That is why form testing belongs in regular website maintenance, and why saving inquiries in a CRM is safer than relying on email alone. If the form is only part of the problem, see why websites stop bringing in leads.

Questions
Contact form not working: common questions
Have a question that isn't here? Call 310.331.8119 or schedule a free consultation.
How do I know if I've missed inquiries?
Check spam folders and any old inboxes the form might send to. Some form plugins also keep a log of submissions you can review.
Why do form emails go to spam?
Often because the email does not appear to come from your domain in a way providers trust. Your domain's email settings may need to allow the website to send on its behalf.
Can an update really break a form?
Yes. Updates to WordPress, the theme, or a plugin can change how the form or its email sending works. Test after every update.
Should form submissions go to a CRM?
It helps. A CRM such as HubSpot saves every inquiry even if the email notification fails.
Can you fix a form on a site you didn't build?
Usually, yes. We test it first and tell you what is causing the problem.
What does it cost to fix?
It depends on the cause. We diagnose it first and confirm the cost before fixing anything.
